Once Around the Island’ is the tagline of the Coogee Island Challenge (Cold Water), and the 2.4km course is just that: one lap circumventing the famous Wedding Cake Island.
Across the last sixteen years the Coogee Island Challenge has seen over 25,000 swimmers hit the start line on our famous Sydney beach with participants ranging from beginners and to experts, 13 years to 70 plus. The combined number of competitors have also travelled over 50,000km around Coogee Bay, which is equivalent of crossing from the most eastern point of Australia, Cape Byron in NSW, to the most western point of Australia, Steep Point in WA, (which is a distance of 4100 kilometres), twelve times!
